Belmont grad sings with Kristin Chenoweth in viral video

Belmont University graduate Sarah Horn got the surprise of her life last week. While attending a Kristin Chenoweth concert at The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, the singer randomly invited Horn onstage to perform a duet on “For Good” from the musical “Wicked,” which was the sometimes country singer’s springboard to stardom. Luckily for Horn, who got her degree in commercial vocal performance in 2009, she knew all of the words to what she calls “her favorite song from one of her favorite musicals.”

She described the experience as “completely surreal” and her “veil of disbelief helped me not to shake during the song.”

Horn wowed both the audience and Chenoweth with her performance. The audience gave her a standing ovation and after she left the stage, Chenoweth commented: “Note to self, don’t have anyone better than you (on stage to sing.)”

Another surprise came after Horn’s friend Mike Kestler posted the video to YouTube, it went viral, and gained more than 2 million views in about two days time.

Since her performance with Chenoweth on Friday night, Horn said she’s been contacted by a variety of news organizations including  The Los Angeles Times and Inside Edition, but that she has not heard from the person she was most hoping to speak with – Kristin Chenoweth.

“I would love to be able to sing with her again but to have a little bit more warning,” said Horn, who works as a vocal coach at both California Baptist University and Riverside Youth Theatre in Riverside, Calif. “That’s my dream –to sing with her again and to talk to her.”

Chenoweth, who regularly pulls audience members on stage to sing with her at her shows, was not available to comment for the story.
